Kabul: Taliban’s acting Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaq with Chinese and Pakistani special envoys for Afghanistan, Yue Xiaoyong and Mohammad Sadiq, held talks in Kabul, the Afghan Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
The meeting centered on the outcomes of the fifth trilateral Foreign Ministers' Dialogue between Afghanistan, China, and Pakistan, while also laying the groundwork for the sixth round of talks, which is expected to take place in Kabul.
Discussions also included preparations for the fifth meeting of foreign ministers from Afghanistan’s neighboring countries, along with broader topics of political and economic cooperation among the three nations.
During the meeting, Muttaqi stressed the importance of deepening regional ties, stating that fostering closer relations with China and Pakistan is essential to Afghanistan’s political and economic development. He expressed optimism about maintaining positive momentum in bilateral and trilateral engagements.
Former Afghan diplomat Aziz Marij noted that continued diplomatic outreach with regional powers like China and Pakistan is particularly valuable at a time when Afghanistan remains diplomatically isolated. He added that hosting major regional gatherings in Kabul marks a symbolic and strategic gain for the country.
Following the meeting, both Chinese and Pakistani envoys reaffirmed their countries' commitment to enhancing cooperation with Afghanistan, emphasizing mutual respect and the principles of good neighborliness.
